A Day on the Slopes at Mad River Mountain
There’s something so serene about standing on top of a mountain with the full intention of flinging yourself down it with reckless abandon. It’s one of the most freeing experiences one can have! And Mad River Mountain is the best place in Ohio to do just that. With countless trails, parks, and areas for fun, Mad River is the perfect winter getaway for the whole family.
Mad River Mountain is Ohio’s best and largest winter resort, and is a must-see for anyone who enjoys the slopes. Located right between Bellefontaine and Marysville, Mad River is just a quick drive from Columbus and Plain city. As one of the oldest ski resorts in the state, this season will mark their 59th year in business, and there’s never been a better time to check it out! Mad River has the most expansive skiable terrain in all of Ohio, so there’s plenty of different skiing to enjoy, from bunny hills to terrain parks. Worried that there won’t be enough snow for a good run? That’s never an issue at this mountain! Mad River is home to Ohio’s largest snowmaking system, with over 120 fan guns capable of pumping over 7000 gallons of water per minute, so you can ski no matter the weather.
Mad River is best known for its sweeping trail and support systems that criss-cross over the entire mountain. Sanding at 1,460 feet, the mountain features 20 trails and 12 different lifts to carry you to them, so there’s a perfect trail for everyone. The main attraction for daredevils is a 300 foot vertical drop that plummets directly down the face of the mountain and is enough to give even the most professional skier butterflies. If you’re more interested in tricks, Mad River is home to four different terrain parks of varying styles and difficulty levels, so you’re sure to find the right one for you.
Don’t know how to ski or snowboard? Don’t worry, they’ve got you covered. Mad River has a full ski and snowboard school that offers both group and private lessons to get you out on the slopes in no time. Don’t have your own gear? Mad River can handle that too. Their Slopeside equipment rental center has all the gear you need to get you started. Plus, all trails are regularly patrolled by the National Ski Patrol to ensure that everyone is staying safe.
If you don’t like skiing or snowboarding, don’t worry, there’s still fun to be had– Mad River is also home to Avalanche Tubing Park, the biggest tubing area in all of Ohio! Featuring 10 1000 foot lanes, it’s a great way to get out in the snow without risking your neck. Just grab a tube and go!
Finally, once the day is out and your legs are sore, you can kick back and enjoy food and drink in the largest ski lodge in Ohio. Featuring a bar, cafe, shop, and plenty of space for you and your friends, there’s no better way to unwind and share stories of your day.
